Chapter 95: Please Stay Away From Me

Early in the morning, Yan Qiuchi came down and saw Shen Jintai standing downstairs in the hall with a suitcase. Mrs. Yan was talking to him. He was surprised and said, “Are you leaving?”

Mrs. Yan said, “He said that something happened, and the crew suddenly asked him to go back. When he came back, didn’t he coordinate well with the crew? Everyone should have been on break. What kind of crew is this?”

Shen Jintai smiled and said, “If something happens unexpectedly, the crew can’t help it. I won’t bother Uncle Yan; can you please send him my regards.”

Yan Yaoxuan also went downstairs and was stunned when he saw Shen Jintai carrying the suitcase. He was still embarrassed because he was rejected yesterday and didn’t speak. He only gave his brother a glance.

Yan Qiuchi reached out to help him carry his luggage, frightening Shen Jintai. Why didn’t he take note of these details before? He was really careless! The Yan family was such a good family, and now, because of his negligence, he most likely will have to limit contact in the future.

Xiao Tang was already waiting outside, so he hurriedly ran over and took the suitcase in Yan Qiuchi’s hand. Shen Jintai said goodbye to everyone and hurriedly got into the car.

“Hurry up and go,” he said to Xiao Tang.

After Xiao Tang drove out of the courtyard, he asked, “Brother Jin, why did you suddenly move out? Where are we going now?”

Shen Jintai: “Go to a hotel.”

Xiao Tang: “Huh?” Why are you staying at a hotel?

Hearing the news, Li Melian drove over as soon as she found out that Shen Jintai had relocated to a hotel. When she entered, she asked, “You’ve been staying at the Yan’s villa for a while now. Why did you suddenly move to a hotel?”

Shen Jintai felt that this matter was quite important and could not hide it from Li Meilan, so he told her of his doubts. Who knew that when Li Meilan heard this, she slapped her thigh and said, “Let me tell you, I suspected it a long time ago!”

Shen Jintai: “What?”

Li Meilan immediately told him all her suspicions. She took out her phone and found the pictures she took from the commemorative album of The East Palace. “Look at these two photos.”

Shen Jintai stared at the photos and asked, “What’s the matter?”

Li Meilan zoomed in on Yan Qiuchi, “Look at who this is and where he is looking!”

Shen Jintai saw Yan Qiuchi staring at him with a smile in his eyes through the crowd. Because the shots were not conspicuous, there was a sense of ambiguous affection.

Shen Jintai: “Shit.”

It turns out that this evil feeling didn’t just manifest over the past few days.

“Why didn’t you tell me? I found out just now!” Shen Jintai said angrily.

Li Meilan: “I was skeptical at first, and there was no evidence. Even now that it’s confirmed, there’s still no actual evidence.”

The corners of Shen Jintai’s mouth moved. He hesitated for a moment but didn’t reveal to Li Meilan that he heard Yan Qiuchi’s conversation telling Yan Yaoxuan about him being his sister-in-law. This was too humiliating for him as a gong!

“Do you think I look like a shou?” He asked Li Meilan.

Li Meilan pushed up her glasses, looked at him, and then asked, “Aren’t you a shou?”

Shen Jintai: “…Used to be, but not anymore!”

Li Meilan: “I guess that’s okay too?”

“Whether it’s okay or not, everything is changing.” Shen Jintai stood up, stretched out his arms, and turned around. “Do I really look like a shou?”

Li Meilan: “Honestly, previously you looked very shou-like, but this year you seem to look more normal.”

In the past, Shen Jintai preferred to dress up with flowers and butterflies and usually put on lots of makeup. While he still looked gorgeous, it only made him look more irritable in front of Yan Qiuchi. However, since his comeback, she felt that Shen Jintai had lost that kind of vibe. Although his figure was good and his ass was very firm and plump, it wasn’t uncommon for male stars to have a good-looking ass that could bend straight men. It was mainly due to his temperament, which had become much calmer.

Shen Jintai got the answer he wanted. He felt the same way himself, but this still wasn’t enough. Otherwise, why would Yan Qiuchi even like him? In the sense that he wanted to fuck him.

Shen Jintai hurriedly went to work out. When he was working out, he was heavily disguised but was still recognized by some people. The one who recognized him was a girl. This gym charged very high fees and had high privacy. Celebrities would often come to work out here, so it wasn’t uncommon for them to encounter people wearing masks. It wasn’t the fact that Shen Jintai was wearing a mask that attracted her attention. Rather, she was able to recognize it was him because of his ass.

Please. She was a gold powder. She had licked the screen countless times and knew every inch of that hot figure. The waist, the ass, the legs, and the body. She could identify at once that it belonged to Shen Jintai.

Immediately, she ran over excitedly to take a photo. Shen Jintai was waving his hand breathlessly as the girl took out her phone and took a selfie. She was so excited to see her idol that she couldn’t control herself, so she could only be a disobedient fan.

After snapping her picture, she immediately posted it on Weibo to share with thousands of gold powders.

The pictures that Shen Jintai posted on the internet were never the ones that were edited by zhan sisters. The pictures that the zhan sisters refine were only used by fans to swipe and lick the screen. Every time a passerby saw a picture of Shen Jintai, it was original and unmodified.

In the short clip, Shen Jintai was wearing gym shorts and a t-shirt. His figure was amazing. It was the kind of lines and sensuality of a young man that was well-proportion and vigorous but also had a soft and delicate look. This type was the type that star-chasing girls loved the most!

“This ass! My phantom limb pays respect!”

“The sweaty appearance of Touhua is too tempting. Such black radiant hair, porcelain-like face, rosy red lips that are soft and tender, and the frame is so robust and strong! Why is there such a superb being like this in the world?! Mom, it was this cooking that took my heart away!”

“Woooooooooow!”

Wolf howls flooded the comment area.

By the time Shen Jintai had come out of the gym, the picture of him working out had reached Yan Qiuchi’s eyes. Yan Qiuchi didn’t have an alt account or anything of that nature, as he didn’t have time to brush Weibo. Rather, it was sent to him by Xiao Yang.

Xiao Yang texted: [I have something I want to talk to you about.]

Yan Qiuchi’s mind was attracted by the news that Xiao Yang reposted. He clicked on it and watched the clip. It was Shen Jintai running on a treadmill.

Xiao Yang texted again: [?]

Yan Qiuchi withdrew his retweet and replied: [?]

Xiao Yang said: [We are good buddies. I think I still have to ask you. If I chase Shen Jintai, you have no problems, right?]

Yan Qiuchi: “…”

Xiao Yang: [I’ve been really fascinated by him recently. This figure, tsk tsk tsk.]

[I have a problem.] Yan Qiuchi texted coldly.

Xiao Yang sent a [?] then [Fuck. You don’t want it but won’t let anyone else either?]

Yan Qiuchi didn’t bother to answer again. For the first time, he felt that Xiao Yang was just a horn dog. He clicked on the video again and checked the time when it was released. He then went to Weibo to search for real-time information and found that it wasn’t an old video but one that had just been posted.

Shen Jintai didn’t go back to the crew and go to the gym? Then why did he lie to them that there was something wrong with the crew? Is he not used to living in Yan’s house? Or was it because of Yan Yaoxuan?

The first thing he thought of was Yan Yaoxuan. Yan Yaoxuan had confessed again, which probably made things awkward for him. Shen Jintai felt that it was inappropriate to live in Yan’s house, so he moved out. He thought that this was his reaction to Yan Yaoxuan.

Yan Qiuchi didn’t know whether to be happy or worried. He hesitated for a while and finally couldn’t bear the thought of not seeing Shen Jintai. He forwarded Xiao Yang’s message to Shen Jintai and then asked, “Are you still in Nancheng?”

Shen Jintai had just come out of the shower and was wiping his hair. When he heard the phone ring, he picked it up and looked. When he saw that it was Yan Qiuchi, his heart couldn’t help but tighten.

He wasn’t sure what he was afraid of. He looked at Yan Qiuchi’s message and became embarrassed. He didn’t go on the hot search, so how could Yan Qiuchi find out? Could it be that he was paying attention to him from an alt account hidden in the Gold Powder Family?

How frightening!

Getting over his embarrassment, he saw that Yan Qiuchi had sent him another message: [Where are you living now?]

[I had some errands that temporarily delayed the flight. I bought another ticket and went to the gym while waiting. I’m now on my way to the airport.] After sending the message, he immediately contacted Xiao Tang and the others and rushed to the airport.

Li Meilan said while they were on the road, “You did the right thing. If you can avoid him in the future, don’t see him. Don’t talk about personal feelings. You cannot be with him. Back then, you fell off the cliff because of him. If you fall again, you may not have the luck to meet another East Palace.”

“He didn’t confess, so there’s nothing I can say unless I embarrass everyone, including Auntie Fang. She loves me very much,” Shen Jintai said. “It’s okay. I’ll be filming for more than a month. He’ll most likely cool down by then. He’s a smart person and a rich boy with a lot of self-esteem. He’ll understand if I don’t show him any responses and will back down. Besides, I’m not 100% sure he truly if he likes me.”

“But Brother Jin is very good now,” Xiao Tang said proudly. “It’s not surprising that anyone would like you.”

Li Meilan smiled when she heard this. “That’s true. Although I suspect that President Yan might like you, and it makes me a little worried, I also feel very happy in my heart. In the past, he ignored your love. Today, Laozi will make it unattainable. Jintai, I can finally breathe a sigh of relief.”

She didn’t like Shen Jintai’s previous behavior, and she knew that Yan Qiuchi was benevolent and had the demeanor of a gentleman, but this kind of thing was not helping the relatives*, so she still needed to tend to Shen Jintai emotionally.

*(帮里不帮亲是) It means to not show favoritism and doing things according to reason. || In this context, she’s saying Yan Qiuchi was nice despite Shen Jintai’s behavior because he’s a gentleman and not because he had any feelings towards him.

The most important thing, though, was that even Yan Qiuchi, who had hated Shen Jintai fiercely, had now fallen in love with him. This significance had surpassed personal feelings, indicating that Shen Jintai’s comeback was a complete success.

He finally got rid of his black history at the lowest point of his life and was now reborn. Everyone saw his changes with their eyes, and everyone was accepting the new him.

They flew directly to the Republic of China Film and Television City, where they were going to shoot the highlight for <Pilot>. It was the climax of the movie, the bombing of Chongqing.

On the plane, Shen Jintai had finished reading the script for <When You’re Older>. After discussing it with Li Meilan and the others, he decided to take on the movie.

Li Meilan: “Fortunately there’s <Pilot> in between that is a completely different role, so there’s no need to worry about you being completely typecast.”

“Everyone knows that I like men, and I don’t care about being typecast. It is unlikely that I will make love films or shows between men or women in the future.” Shen Jintai said. In his mind, he felt he wouldn’t consider the influence of whether there were same sex scenes or not when he took on a project. He was mainly looking at the role themselves.

<When You’re Older> is completely different from The East Palace. It’s a modern romance film with a high degree of completion*, and it gives him ample room for artistic interpretation.

*It’s referring to the level of the medium’s ability to meet expectations and acceptance. || In this context, he’s saying it’s not a shitty movie, and most likely the audience members will like it as it meets their expectations.

“Is Bai Qingquan acting as Yu Nuo?” Shen Jintai asked Li Meilan.

Li Meilan: “He said that you can choose between the two roles. I have also read the script. Their scenes are similar, but the content is different. Still both roles are good.”

“He definitely wants to play Yu Nuo,” Shen Jintai felt that he knew Bai Qingquan very well. Bai Qingquan was more concerned about looks than anything else. Luo Wensheng had a lot of scenes where he was in his old age. If he had to act in such an ugly state, Bai Qingquan might struggle to hold it.

Shen Jintai had confidence, though. His acting skills were more solid than Bai Qingquan’s, so he can handle those scenes better.

“Xingyun’s remuneration for Shen Jintai is higher than yours,” Wei Ge said with dissatisfaction.

Bai Qingquan: “I already know about this. Someone from their company told me. It’s not like my pay is much worse. Shen Jintai’s willingness to join is the most important thing. Money is a trivial matter. It’s not what I lack.”

Wei Ge: “You just want to act with Shen Jintai?”

“I’m really not impulsive. I just thought about it rationally. There should be no room for failure for my first movie,” Bai Qingquan said. “Acting with Shen Jintai by itself is enough of a gimmick, let alone we can also borrow the lingering heat from the East Palace, so we don’t have to worry about box office numbers. The role also spans a large timeline, from a teenager to an old man. The required acting skills are quite large. Also, love dramas have particularly high appeals. When these three things are added up, there’s no one more suitable than Shen Jintai. Let’s make a good film and strive to win an award.”

Bai Qingquan was very ambitious this time. He had also personally invested in this film which was one of his original signing conditions. He had to keep his career in mind.

On the set of <Pilot>, the special effects artist directed the staff on the scene, who were holding a rain rack and blower. The wind swept the artificial rain towards Shen Jintai’s face. Shen Jintai struggled to untie the parachute on his body. Blood was flowing down his head, staining his face. His eyelashes were covered in red as he panted to climb up the ruined walls, carrying his comrade down.

“Just…leave me…” Blood was pouring out of Chu Heming’s chest. “I… I can’t hold on anymore… Run away.”

The camera focused on Shen Jintai’s face. His lips trembled, and he didn’t speak. He went to pull off the rope on Chu Heming’s body when a shell hit the ground. A group of Jap devils came running over with guns in the distance. Chu Heming pushed him away, spit out a mouthful of blood, and caught him by the waist. He grabbed his pistol and said, “Live and kill a few more Japs for me!”

After speaking, he grabbed the gun and shot himself.

It all happened in an instant. Shen Jintai’s face was splattered with blood, stunning him. His neck was covered with blue veins, and he couldn’t help but let out a low howl.

Between the strong wind and heavy rain, he passed through a small town by the river. “Run, run again.” The director shouted from behind the monitor. “Jump!”

With a rescue rope tied to his waist, Shen Jintai ran to the head of the bridge, and without hesitating for a moment, he leapt into the roaring Yangtze River.

The author has something to say:

Salute the heroes of the anti-Japanese war.

Kinky Thoughts:

Oh… so now I’ve moved on from translating dog blood to actual blood. Lord, help me with these dramas!

On a serious note: while some may think that the tone of this drama is very anti-Japanese, do keep in mind that this is based off of a real event in history, the: Second Sino-Japanese War. Many atrocities were committed by the Japanese against Chinese citizens, including the infamous Rape of Nanjing, of which Japan is still quite reluctant to acknowledge.

There are no winners in war.

Not to bring the mood down but as the philosopher George Santayana once said, “Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”

  1. Ahckk, I feel bad for ML ಥ‿ಥ
On another note, I thought that the novel was just very nationalistic… didn’t know that their hatred towards the japanese (in the movie they’re filming) is somehow justified.
    Thank you for the chappy~~~

    • The fact that there are really people out there who don’t know about such awful Japanese war atrocities really shows how great Japan’s “white-washing” is. I’m not being derogatory towards them, just impressed with their ability to change the world’s view of them. FYI Japan not only committed atrocities in China but also many in Korea (hence their strong anti-Japanese sentiment) and SE Asia, and probably other countries too. My grandma cannot talk about Japan without crying still.

  2. There are still very strong feelings in China about WW-II era Japanese invasion of China (a little less strong than Jewish feelings RE Nazi Germany but pretty similar overall). Most WW-II era movies are very nationalistic and there are usually Anne Frank-type stories in textbooks from prisoners/rebel perspectives etc where the Chinese person ends up dying tragically/heroically. Little kid learns to read in prison using blood as ink and toilet paper as paper etc.
